Description

This is a drawing I did as a Christmas gift for a friend who is a fan of the famous (or infamous) French revolutionary, Camille Desmoulins. He was a journalist and pamphleteer, the so-called "enfant terrible of the Revolution," who was well-known for inciting mobs to violence- often urging them to string up "enemies of the revolution" to lamp-posts (hence the grisly scene in the background). Camille is the chief protagonist in the excellent novel "A Place of Greater Safety," by Hilary Mantel; he is also the hero in the (unfortunately)somewhat less excellent "The Gods are Thirsty," by the otherwise fabulous Tanith Lee. This is drawn with ball-point and Koh-i-Noor pens.

That is a superb portrait. Brilliantly executed, if you'll pardon the phrase.
