1965 sketches by suburbanbeatnik 1965 sketches by suburbanbeatnik
Thanks to Mad Men, I've had the 1960s on the brain. Here's a bunch of characters from a story set in 1965 I'm currently working on, with the help of :iconsavivi:.

From top left: Sam Frankowski, down on his luck surf rock musician; protagonist Alec Cameron, a charming and ruthless music agent; Julie Benoit, an ambitious artist; and Sharon Tate from Valley of the Dolls, which I was rewatching the other night. At the bottom there's Alec and Julie again.

For inspiration for the characters, I was thinking of Sam Rockwell for Sam, Jamie Thomas King for Alec (channeling Sting from Quadrophenia) and for Julie as a very young Courtney Cox. I don't think Sharon Tate needs any explanation-- VotD is one of my favorite bad movies.

I'm working on it right now! Someday, I hope I shall finish it. (I'm pretty bad at that, though I'm pleased to say I have actually finished and published two short stories.)

Hhahahha and you weren't the first to use Sting, they had him model for Constantine in Alan Moore's Swamp Thing.

The lines look great. I like how you shade hair. You should check out the Sexy People Blog in the 1960's category (the glasses! :D). The blog has tons of old portrait photography from the 60s to the 90s.

Oh yeah! Sorry. For some reason I thought you were referring to someone with the first name of Tate... :blushes:
