Alan Forrest Pin-Up by suburbanbeatnik Alan Forrest Pin-Up by suburbanbeatnik
This is Alan Forrest, one of the main characters from my time travel romance novella, "A Question of Time" (which you can read more about here). He's an English teacher/sci-fi author back in 1989, whose life may or may not suffer a drastic change when meeting a mysterious woman from the future. You can see another picture of him here: [link]

Obviously, this isn't the kind of pose Alan would usually do. The idea for a pin-up type pic was actually suggested by *comic-chic; and I did it because ~MaidenOverTheStar and *Rosengeist asked for it. They are both big fans of this character-- in fact, ~MaidenOverTheStar just did this great picture of Alan, complete with lovingly rendered nerd glasses and feathered hair.

So yeah, this definitely fits into the Nerds are Sexy trope-- in fact, I named this character after Alan Bradley, Bruce Boxleitner's character in the original Tron. I hope you guys enjoy! I think this quite possibly is my first proper male pin-up ever.

Haha, I was trying to go for "shy but sexy," but I don't know if I succeeded. What do you think? :XD:

LOL, he looks pretty bold to me, honestly. ROWR. ;p

There's a lot of warmth in his expression, though. I like that. ^^

You used colored pencils on this right? And you said you can't use them.:XD: (Well, you said that they are hard, but you make them not look hard).

Honestly, the only thing that looks 80's on him is the glasses. Because I don't recall the pants line being that low in the 80's. :XD:

The colored pencils weren't hard on this because I wasn't doing a big picture with a background... doing one character w/o a background is always much easier. :)

Really? The only thing that looks '80s on Alan is the glasses? His hair looks just like Roger Barrett's from this cover of Sweet Valley High: [link] Also, the waistline of the pants is about an inch beneath his navel-- modern day pants waistlines are about three inches beneath the navel.

Haha, not like my commission. :XD:

Damn, you know this stuff by heart.:o Now that you show me the picture, his hair does look pretty 80's.:XD:

LOL, well, I did actually live through the '80s. :XD:

In fact I still remember it with rather horrifying vividness. The pastel interior decoration... the bitch flips... the ubiquitous shoulder pads... gah!

Yeah, you guys had really terrible fashion back then. Isn't a bitch flip a hairstyle? :o My mom has pictures of herself in the 80's, and omg, I can't believe she did that stuff to her hair.:XD: And then the dress with the socks... just... no.

LOL, well I am certainly not as old as your mom! The bitch flip is what those huge-ass bangs were called (this is something I learned when I went to uni, years later.)

Did you see my latest pic of Alan? :D

You're welcome! It's kind of cheesy, but it was a fun way to get back into the art thing after my big move. :)

SO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT. Okay, so I officially want to be a literary character because it's not fair that he can't be real. For serious. I really love the all the lines. It's characteristic of your style, and they really pronounce his lovely facial structure. Also, I applaud you for consistently drawing your characters with the same likeness. I don't know how you do it, but I must learn your secret. And those abs! AHHHHHHHH! Okay, I need to draw some more fan art now.

Yay! I was hoping you would dig it. Now I want to see a chibi style anime scene where a horde of fangirls chase down Alan and tackle him... like this.. :glomp:

So you're going to do more fanart soon? Really? :D
