Bongos for Christmas by suburbanbeatnik Bongos for Christmas by suburbanbeatnik
This is the Christmas card I did this year for my agent. The theme I chose was "A Very Beatnik Christmas"; I decided to feature two hepcat parents giving their little girl just what she wanted for Christmas- namely, bongos! Like, Maynard G. Krebs would totally dig it, man.

This is like so groovy, daddy-o! My hubby and I would buy a set of these if you made them as Christmas cards for sale......

Really? It was the Xmas card for my agent a few years ago. If I had it for sale in my Cafepress store, would you consider buying it? :)

The dad looks very lifelike. I bet you work with the coolest life models!

That said, I'm glad the mysterious black cat is enjoying some wrapping paper!

Yes, I used to own a record player like that too. Back in the 80s I played my 45s of Toni Basil and Wham! on it... ;P

What a great idea. I love all the little touches in this, like the embroidery on mom's peasant shirt and the way the kitty is sitting in the wrapping paper. And the Thelonious Monk album. :D

Thanks! I own that album, by the way. I love "Brilliant Corners." I also own the kitty... you might notice a certain black cat popping up in a lot of my paintings. :)

This reminds me of the books of Francesca Lia Block. It's beautiful. Nice job!

In the book Baby Be-Bop. I think Dirk's father and mother were ones.
