So I'm illustrating The Queen's Cavaliers, which is currently in its final days on Kickstarter. It's a clockpunk, swashbuckling, cinematic tabletop RPG set in an alternate 17th century which is very much like more inclusive Three Musketeers.  The dueling lady here is Martine Devaux, a wickedly talented and troublemaking assassin who is something of the mascot of the game. She's fighting against the Duke of Bedyngford, the Albian ambassador.  I love 17th century fashions, and this game really makes the most of them. Go for baroque!

If you what you see, or the game looks cool to you, please consider supporting us! :)

Awesome!! I love the detail in their clothing. She's got a great expression, too. :D

You're welcome - I love Bosse's work, so it was a pleasure to see it here. :)

Bosse is pretty awesome, yet strangely underrated.

I wonder if it's part of that period of French history being largely unknown or ignored, outside the Musketeers derivations, in the English-speaking world?

I think that's probably it. The only reason why anyone in the Anglophone world has heard of Louis XIII is because of Dumas et al. And no one ever writes about the Fronde!

It actually grinds my gears a bit - Dumas misrepresented Louis XIII and Richelieu so badly.

I hear you. I gotta say, I enjoyed the 1973 Richard Lester films far more than the original novel, which, IMO, was kind of blah.

Doubtless "De Winter, Eat your heart out!" or something similar is going through her mind at the very moment depicted (not to mention some plan to introduce something very sharp and pointy into some crucial portion of Milord's anatomy!).

I was going to comment that Martine reminds me of a certain wintry femme fatale. :)
