Mary Stuart by suburbanbeatnik Mary Stuart by suburbanbeatnik
Another sketch of big Mary Stuart. Not surprisingly, I am working on a project regarding her- although it is currently on hiatus. But Mary still rocks, no matter what time of year it is...

Lovely work- I especially like the French style of the late 1550's you depict Mary as wearing. But then, I am a big fan of the French Court painter, Clouet. Did you base this illustration on any particular work?

Ooh, I love Clouet too! I didn't base it on anything in particular-- just took bits from various pics here and there. :)

Adding the curtain and candle adds to the pose's attraction, indeed. I found your choice of composition here most pleasing. I guess she's cut off at the bottom, for I'm sure you didn't mean her a bit short in proportion.

Your project, as uploaded in your gallery thus far with these 6 pieces, is most fascinating. Good luck with it, be it published already or in the works...

Yeah, I cut it off at the bottom- those farthingale skirts are so big, and Mary was almost 6 ft. tall herself! The project in question is an illustrated children's bio of MQoS, which unfortunately is currently on hiatus- my author (who has published a zillion books over the past 30 years) has been having a lot of health problems lately. I swore to the heavens that it shall see the light of day eventually. Mary needs me as a champion- perhaps she'd appreciate it if I prayed a novena to St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes? :P

*lol* Yes, St. Jude may indeed help you, but in the meantime it's great you've decided to "publish" them on DeviantArt so that the illustrations could still be enjoyed publicly. I wish you good luck!

And thanks for responding to my comment!

No problem :) By the way, the major promo illustration for MQoS project (tentatively titled "The Phoenix Queen") is here... [link] ....If anything happens with it, I'll be sure to let you all know here!
