Nick Haden studies by suburbanbeatnik Nick Haden studies by suburbanbeatnik
Here are more sketches for my as yet untitled AU 1940s Hades/Persephone fic. (You can read a description here [link]) Haden lights a cigarette in one, and tries to sell you the Brooklyn bridge in the other, as he wears a double-breasted suit straight out of Kiss of Death with Victor Mature and Richard Widmark. "We dance, we kiss, we schmooze, we carry on, we go home happy. What do you say? Come on!"

I love this! I wish I could read the story it goes with.

Thank you! But I'm sorry to say that at this point it will probably never be written. I have so many stories on my plate nowadays... *sighs*

I adore that suit. Fussily-dressed men rock times a lot.

makes me want to go watch the godfather... (which i've never watched in my entire life) just a question, what advice does a master artist like you have for a young amateur who practitcally draws stick figures?
cause your drawings are just marvellous!

Take art classes, look at figure drawing books, observe, draw, draw, and draw! It's all practice. And repetition... I know, doesn't it sound like fun? :)

Ugh. Well, I'm sure you can find good figure-drawing/anatomy books to look at, and I'd highly recommend just going around with a sketchbook and drawing random people. That is, if you have any energy after all that studying... eep!

Yes, I can sense the look of Victor Mature in the center Hades' eyes and expression. Or so I think.

I like that top figure who's smoking and thinking; reminds me of several of the old time actors.

And now I'm reminded of the classic "Thin Man" movie series...know of it? Great "mood" images with a comic bent.

Thank you! I've heard of the Thin Man, of course (I'm an old movie buff, if you hadn't guessed!), but I've never actually sat down and watched all of 'em. I can't tell you how long it took to do that suit... and the hat... gah!

Anyway, I have sketches of 1940s Persephone, Meg, Herc, etc, but I might wait to post them for a few days.

I'm a classic movie fan myself, loving Humphrey Bogart especially. The Thin Man is worth the watch; treat yourself at least to the first one.

Looking forward to your next promised pieces, but I think my friend will just die for them!
