May I be so bold as to ask if you have received any commissions to sketch out or fully illustrate selections from the cast of characters in the 'Masters of Rome' series by Ms. Coleen McCullough? (beyond the late, great Cato Uticensis and dear old Marcus Tullius Cicero … also Clodia, who does appear as a supporting player).

I admire these books and more particularly the scholarship of their author, although I must admit to a certain weariness with their depiction of Caesar the Dictator that is due not to any lack of flaw in his character as depicted than because he WILL tend to be lionised by comparison with those who opposed him - for all his populist leanings he tends to come across more as a predator than as a paragon (given his home-wrecking ways and consistent employment of war as a tool of policy not an unfair comparison, in my opinion).

I haven't received anymore commission requests for Roman folks lately, though my commissions have been closed for a couple years at this point. HOWEVER (it's your lucky day!) I am now again open for a limited number of commissions. Want to put your name in for a sketch? :)

Anyway, yeah, I remember my Dad complaining about how McCullough had such a ridiculous crush on Caesar. She really went on... and ON... about that guy. Sheesh!

Well I might put in my name for a sketch but I can't imagine who'd want to see ME put on paper, even as illustrated by your own most excellent talents.;) (Wink)

On a more serious note I am mighty tempted by your offer, but would have to waste an astonishing amount of your time just trying to pin down EXACTLY which of my many, many, MANY favourites I would wish you to illustrate.

Might I please crave your indulgence before I commit?

Sure! I'm opening up slots right now. Would you like something in a month or two?

I fear that I don't really plan so far ahead; I am, one must admit, just a wee bit prone to sit back and let the Muse do all the work - please be assured that if I do think up some REALLY GOOD idea appropriate to your talents then you shall be contacted with Astonishing Speed!Nod
