Quick update and new book coupon!

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 5, 2013, 2:19 PM

Sorry for the long radio silence, guys-- this last year has been crazy busy. I'll be posting some new artwork soon, honest!

I'll have a new story out very soon too. It's a SF version of Rapunzel I've co-written with DA stalwart Kat Laurange (aka Capn Flynn. More about that soon!

For the meantime, my publisher Champagne Books is having an extended Black Friday sale-- with the coupon code CYMON13, you can save 50% off all books in the new store until 11/6 at noon. Been meaning to buy my critically acclaimed novella A QUESTION OF TIME?

Here's your chance!

Was wondering where you'd gone!  And sounds like you've been busy with a lot of amazing things!  Can't wait to see the Rapunzel stuff.

Thanks!! I've been wondering how the Disney cosplaying stuff has been going with you. I've been wanting to get back to the princesses but I've had no time to speak of.

How HAS it been going with the cosplaying? :)

Everything's been going great.  I saw that you added an Elsa design, awesome.
I haven't started the Aurora dress yet though because I want to wait and get a whole historical princess group, so I figured I'd wait until you have the time to do more of the designs.  Just so people feel like they have more to choose from I guess.  But who knows, I might just make it even without a group.  And now I want to make the Elsa dress too.  That image you found of the concept art for Elsa and Anna's family was great, I wish they looked more like that in the actual movie but oh well.
Right now I'm making Anna's dress for Katsucon.  I really liked it because of the braids and because it sort of vaguely looks like a dirndl(even though I now it's not, it whatever traditional dress they wear in Denmark or Norway, but it has that German feel to it so whatever).  I thought Aurora would be my first Disney princess costume, but somehow I wound up doing this instead.  I'm still definitely going to make the Aurora dress you designed though, I love it too much not to.

That's great! I thought of you a lot while painting Elsa, and I'm glad you really liked it. I hope you get a few more girls together to cosplay a few other princesses too, because that would be awesome.

So, as you know, I can't do as many princess designs as I would like because of my day job and freelance work, and most fans don't have the funds to commission a whole piece from me. However, I think I have an idea. What do you think of using Patreon to patronize/crowdfund me into doing a more regular stream of Disney heroines and villains? If a lot of people gave me a few bucks every month, that would really help, and I could better justify taking the time to work on the fanart series.

I'd love to hear what you think! :)

Oh, there will definitely be a group.  The only reason I'm waiting is because more people were interested than there are choices right now.  But I do understand completely the dilemma of spending time making the princesses when you could be doing something you make money for instead.  And I don't mind waiting.
I think you should try to do crowdfunding on that site.  I think you'd get a lot of money if you did.  And I think making one on like Gofundme or something is worth a try too.  People get funded for things like a trip to go to Arizona from NYC, with 5 cosplayers, to take some photos for a week and basically have a vacation.  You're creating art- of beloved characters.  People will definitely fund you if you try these sites.  I think you should go for it.

Thank you! This is super encouraging. :D

Do you have any ideas for any particular levels I could use? Or ways I could reward donors?

I'm so bad at thinking of rewards and things for those funding sites!  I'm sorry!  I'll try to come with ideas though.

So nice to hear from you and sounds maybe like you have been crazy busy, but in a very successful way!  I had no idea you also wrote and had a book out - congrats!!!  The premise sounds very fun!

An SF themed Rapunzel tale next??  Rapunzel is one of my all-time favorite fairy tales (I've had a Rupunzel project for at least 6 years haha) so can't wait to hear more!

Oh yes! Please check it out. Time travel romance is my thing!

We're looking for a early spring release for the anthology in question, which is called GRIMM FUTURES. Kat and I are planning on doing some artwork for it too!
